Homicide investigators in Peel Region have arrested a man in relation to a fatal stabbing outside a Mississauga banquet hall in October.

On Oct. 22, 2006 an incident happened in a parking lot near the Dawat Banquet Hall on Nashua Drive at about 4 a.m.

Perry Agyemang, 26, was rushed to hospital suffering stab wounds but succumbed to his injuries soon after he arrived for treatment.

Police immediately began questioning witnesses and speaking with people who were inside the banquet hall at the time. A fashion show and party was occurring at the facility when the incident occurred.

Many people inside the banquet hall did not know what had happened just outside the building.

After what police called "a thorough investigation," officers arrested 29-year-old Kevin Michael Sawyers. He was charged with second degree murder and scheduled to make a court appearance in Brampton on Monday.

But the investigation is continuing. The Peel Homicide Bureau has asked anyone with information to call (905) 453-2121, ext. 3205 or Peel Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1 (800) 222-TIPS (8477).

Agyemang was Peel Region's ninth homicide for 2006.
