Peel police have concluded an eight-month drug investigation they called "Vanquish," which has resulted in millions of dollars of drugs being pulled off the street.

"It's a significant seizure," Insp. Lee Weare of the Peel Regional police morality squad at a Friday news conference.

"Any time you can seize a multiple-kilo level of drugs it's the conclusion of a good investigation and a successful investigation," he said before adding, "I'm not saying it's the biggest seizure we ever made, but at the same time, it is a significant seizure worthy of comment."

The following drugs were seized:

  • Cocaine - Five kilograms
  • Ketamine - Seven kilograms
  • Ecstasy - 205,000 tablets

Ketamine is a hallucinogenic party drug known on the street as Special K.

Police also seized 480 grams of marijuana and $12,000 in cash.

The investigation took place in Peel region, Toronto and York region. Undercover police officers posed as suppliers.

The arrests and seizures came in four waves, with the latest coming on Thursday.

Ten people have been arrested and charged with 39 drug-related offences.

Weare wouldn't describe the group as a drug ring. "It was not a sophisticated conspiracy between these 10 individuals," he said.

What linked them was their ability to sell at the kilo or multi-thousand-tablet level, he said.

"These are what I would consider dangerous traffickers in the region or the city of Toronto," Weare said.

CTV Toronto's Matet Nebres said one undercover officer told her that Vanquish only scratched the surface of the Peel region drug trade.
