A pedestrian was killed by a transport truck while crossing a busy intersection in Vaughan Tuesday morning, according to York Regional Police.

Police said the 17-year-old male was crossing Keele Street at Rutherford Road when the accident occurred just before 9 a.m. 

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the transport truck, a 29-year-old Brantford man, was not injured.

Authorities shut down the area to traffic as they investigated the incident, reopening the area at about 3 p.m.. Investigators spoke with the driver of the vehicle, who remained at the scene.

"The circumstances surrounding the cause are still under investigation," police said in a news release.
