Police are investigating after an early-morning collision sent a woman to hospital with serious injuries after she was struck by a car in north Toronto on Monday.

Police said the driver, a young man, lost control of his vehicle and collided with a woman walking on the sidewalk.

The collision occurred on Northtown Way, near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue East at 4:20 a.m.

Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The woman, in her 40s, was sent to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The man is in police custody with charges pending.
