TORONTO - Toronto police say a woman has died in hospital after stepping into the path of a truck.

Police say the 50-year-old woman had been walking along a paved section of shoulder on Wednesday morning and stopped behind a hydro pole.

Investigators say she then stepped from behind the pole onto the roadway, directly into the path of an approaching truck.

The 34-year-old truck driver attempted to stop the vehicle, but struck the woman.

Police say she died of her injuries Wednesday afternoon.
