Parts of the GTA were hit with hail and snow Monday afternoon in a display of severe weather that left almost as quickly as it arrived.

Areas including King City, Scarborough and Pickering saw golf-ball-sized hail or wet snow in the late afternoon. It came down from what seemed like all directions, leaving piles of frosty frozen pellets in its wake.

The storm came near the end of a day of severe weather warnings issued by Environment Canada. A thunderstorm rocked the city on Sunday night.

Environment Canada cancelled the warning on Monday afternoon just before 5 p.m.
