Windsor police have announced the arrest of five individuals in connection with a bank robbery in that city last Friday.

However, Toronto Police aren't prepared to officially say yet whether the group is also behind a series of bank robberies in the GTA in the past few months.

A detective with the Toronto Police hold-up squad said an announcement could come Thursday.

The Windsor robbery attempt took place at a CIBC branch.

"Five suspects, including four adults and one young person who cannot be indentified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act were arrested subsequent to the robbery as they attempted to flee the scene in a waiting vehicle," Windsor police said Wednesday in a news release.

One of the accused is a woman. All live in the Toronto area. The accused are:

  • Jerome Allen, 20
  • Cristobal Caceres, 20
  • Justin Deelarbi, 20
  • Tatiana Gray, 20
  • a 16-year-old young offender who cannot be named

They all face the following charges:

  • robbery with a firearm
  • forcible confinement
  • possession of a firearm obtained by crime
  • pointing a firearm
  • possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace

The five are currently being held in the Windsor County Jail awaiting a court appearance. No allegations against them have been proven in a court of law.

Late last month, the Canadian Bankers Association increased its reward to $50,000 for a trio that became informally known as the over-the-counter gang.

They would enter the bank, firearms drawn, with two taking control and one doing lookout duty.

In three cases, tellers were pistol-whipped, their wounds requiring stitches. In five other robberies, one teller was pushed violently to the ground, but there were no other allegations of violence.
