Police are asking for the public's help in locating a teenage boy who went missing after he attended a concert on Tuesday evening.

Sixteen-year-old Mason MacPhail attended the Disturbed concert held at the Sound Academy, located at 11 Polson St.

The teenager is from the Peterborough area and has not been seen since about 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, when he got separated from three of his friends.

Security camera footage places him in the parking lot across the street from the concert facility at that time.

His friends searched for him through the night, but could not find him.

MacPhail has Asperger's Syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder.

His parents say MacPhail knows the Eaton Centre, but is not from Toronto.

Police say he has money with him and a debit card that has not been used since he went missing.

Det. Sgt. Howie Page told reporters at a Wednesday afternoon news conference that MacPhail's parents have indicated their son is not good with directions and may be lost.

"The problem for Mason is ... with the diagnosis he has, he has limited knowledge of direction, over and above the fact that he has no knowledge whatsoever of Toronto, so he would not know his surroundings here last night," he said just after 3 p.m.

"We are keeping our minds open, all of our options open, as far as where Mason could be."

An "intensive" search effort is underway to find the missing teenager, involving the marine unit, as well as 45-50 officers on the street, Page said.

MacPhail's mother is distraught over her missing son.

"I can't handle this. Who would think that this is going to happen to your own child?" she told reporters in Toronto on Wednesday.

"He's not even come to Toronto by himself before. This is his first outing to Toronto."

Page said the people who went to the concert with MacPhail have been very co-operative and are working with police to find their missing friend.

But police are still asking to hear from anyone who may have seen MacPhail after he left the concert.

MacPhail is described as a white male, who weighs about 160 pounds and stands 5'11" in height. He has green eyes, very short and wavy, dark brown hair and he has a scar on his nose.

When he was last seen, MacPhail was wearing blue jeans, a white long-sleeved shirt and running shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-5100, or to call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-8477.
