Christmas comes early in Brockville, Ont. with 'Miracle on King Street' event, Santa Claus Parade

Holiday celebrations kick off in Brockville The City of Brockville is starting the holidays with hundreds flocking to the 'Miracle on King Street' celebration.

Even though it's still just over one month away, downtown Brockville, Ont. was in the Christmas spirit on Saturday.

It starts with the "Miracle on King Street," an event organized by the city.

"Just getting started into the Christmas spirit," said Brockville resident Debbie McIntyre.

"I always like to come down and support the local businesses downtown, it's a nice opportunity, beautiful day."

From 10 to 4:00 p.m., King Street will be transformed into a winter wonderland, operating as a Christmas market with a variety of activities being held.

Some of the activities include the Brockville Railway Tunnel being lit up with red and green lights, sleigh rides around Blockhouse Island, an ugly-sweater decorating contest and a gingerbread house-making competition.

In addition, two local farms set up shop with their own petting zoo’s, dressing their animals in festive gear.

"Everybody loves the animals. Especially because we put them in Christmas decor," said Crystal Cordick, the owner of C&M Ranch in Athens, Ont.

Cordick added that her farm loves participating in activities and different markets.

"I come to all their downtown markets,” she said. “They close off King Street a few times a year so, we are regulars."

There will also be a special screening of "Hot Frosty" at Richard's Coffeehouse. The film premiered on Netflix on Nov. 13. and was filmed in Brockville for several weeks in May.

Saturday’s festivities will wrap up with the annual Santa Claus Parade, which begins at 4 p.m.
