An Oshawa man who operates a daycare and worked as a Santa Claus in several malls has been charged in connection with a child pornography investigation on Wednesday.

A search warrant was executed at a King Street East address in Oshawa on Wednesday following an undercover investigation by the Durham Regional Police's Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

A number of computers were seized with a large collection of child pornography on the hard drives, police said in a press release on Wednesday.

The Durham police investigation, which started in November 2010, was assisted by Toronto Police Service and the OPP's Behavioural Sciences Section.

Police said the accused operates the Kids Matter Family Day Care on King Street East in Oshawa and has also worked as a Santa Claus in various malls across the Greater Toronto Area, including Promenade Mall, Fairview Mall, Hillcrest Mall and Centrepoint Mall.

Police said an initial scan of the seized files did not indicate he was victimizing the children under his care.

The investigation is ongoing and police said hard drives are being examined to determine if victims can be identified.

Shawn Chiasson, 37, of Oshawa is charged with possession of child pornography, two counts of making child pornography available and accessing child pornography. He was held for a bail hearing.
