DUNCAN, B.C. - Two members of the Ontario Provincial Police took custody of Perry Dunlop at the RCMP detachment in Duncan, B.C. on Tuesday before he was to appear in a Toronto courtroom.

"Two officers from the OPP took custody of him this morning and they are en route to Ontario," said RCMP Const. Susan Boyes.

Dunlop, a 43-year-old former Ontario police officer, has consistently refused to testify at an inquiry probing allegations of systemic sexual abuse in that province.

Dunlop's off-hours investigation of an alleged pedophile ring in which clergy, politicians and business leaders in Cornwall, Ont., were accused of bizarre sexual rituals with young boys prompted a police probe dubbed Project Truth.

Dunlop, whose information was considered critical, has flatly refused to give his evidence, saying he's lost faith in the justice system.

He was found to be in contempt of a court order that he appear at the commission.

Dunlop was arrested Sunday at his home in Duncan as his wife, three daughters and about 75 supporters voiced their support of his boycott.

He is to appear before a Divisional Court judge in Toronto on Wednesday to answer to his actions.

Neither the Crown nor the defence involved in the matter in court in Duncan were immediately available.

Dunlop's wife, Helen, said the validity of the warrant had come under questioning Monday, when Dunlop appeared in court.

She said the judge's opinion was that the matter be remanded until Tuesday, when the warrant's validity could be verified.

She described her own ordeal after her husband was taken into custody.

"I went to the police station (Monday) night and I spoke to a police officer and said, 'I've got his mother in the car. She's afraid he's going to disappear in the night."'

She said she was told by a police officer that her husband would be held in the Duncan lockup for his court appearance on Tuesday.

"(But) Perry called me this morning and said, 'They're pulling me out of here."'

She said she intended to be on a flight later Tuesday to Toronto.
