LEEDS, Ont. - Police in eastern Ontario are reminding the public on the correct use of 911 after someone called the emergency number to get a ferry schedule.

Provincial police say officers responded Tuesday night after a visitor to Wolfe Island called 911 to find out when the ferry was running.

They say the officers addressed the caller's concerns and "provided education" on the proper use of the 911 system.

Staff Sgt. Josh Kingsley says 911 is only to be used in situations when the safety of people or property is at risk and the matter requires immediate assistance.
