TORONTO - Ontario provincial and Ohio state police have signed an agreement that they say will improve road safety on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border.
The agreement, signed by Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Ohio Governor Ted Strickland, will see the two forces sharing information, particularly on traffic safety training.
They also say the agreement will help them to share information on accountability and operational practices.
OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino was in Columbus, Ohio to announce the agreement with American authorities.
He says it's critical for the Ontario police force to build relationships with other police agencies in both Canada and the U.S.
Members of Ontario's motorcycle patrol unit have been in Columbus all week training Ohio and Georgia state highway patrols, which recently introduced motorcycle patrol units.
