One person was killed when a car became wedged under a school bus in a crash north of Toronto on Tuesday morning, Ontario Provincial Police say.

The person who was killed was the driver of the car.

No one aboard the bus was injured.

The crash occurred in dense fog at the intersection of Vasey and Old Fort roads, about 125 kilometres north of Toronto, shortly before 8:35 a.m.

None of the 33 high school students was injured and the bus driver was shaken but OK, said Chris Harwood, a spokesman for Student Transit Transportation Services.

The bus was transporting the students to St. Theresa’s Catholic High School, and all of the students were safely taken to the school on a second bus after the crash, said Ontario Provincial Police spokesman Const. Dave Hobson.

Counselling is being offered to the students and bus driver.

Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
