An on-duty Ontario Provincial Police officer was airlifted to a Toronto hospital Wednesday morning after a single-vehicle accident south of Angus.

OPP Const. Kelly Daniels said the officer is in serious but stable condition. Police say he was conscious as he was airlifted to St. Michael’s Hospital in downtown Toronto at around 10:45 a.m. with injuries to the head and chest.

The crash happened just before 10 a.m. when an unmarked police cruiser rolled off the road, through a ditch, and hit trees before coming to a stop along County Road 10 at the 4th Line, south of Angus.

The officer’s family was also taken to St. Michael’s Hospital by police escort Wednesday afternoon.

But not all of the officer’s family members have been notified of his injuries, which is why police haven’t yet released his name, OPP Sgt. Brian Humber told reporters.
