TORONTO - Top brass at the scandal-plagued Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. are being read the riot act by the province after buying foreign cars as contest prizes.

Infrastructure Minister George Smitherman says he met with OLG executives and minced no words in his warning the company to do more to help Ontario's auto workers.

Smitherman says he's furious over what he says is a "crappy" decision to buy 22 Mercedes-Benzes to give away at Ontario casinos.

The move, he says, shows especially bad judgment at a time when thousands of Ontario auto workers are losing their jobs.

While Smitherman says he let the OLG know "in full force" that such a lapse will not be tolerated in the future he stopped short of asking for any resignations.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says that's a mistake, calling the purchase a slap in the face for auto workers.

The OLG has been under fire in recent years following a probe into so-called lottery insider wins that has results in several charges.
