TORONTO -

The president of the Ontario Federation of Labour president wants a criminal investigation into the deaths of four migrant workers who fell to their death on Christmas Eve in Toronto.

Sid Ryan is calling on Ontario's attorney general to investigate whether criminal negligence was a factor in the deaths of the four men.

They died when a scaffold they were working on broke apart.

A fifth man is in intensive care with two fractured legs and a broken spine.

Ryan says a criminal investigation could determine whether the men were provided with proper safety equipment and supervision.

He says federal legislation allows for criminal charges if it is determined that a company causes death or serious harm due to negligence.
