TORONTO - An off-duty Ontario Provincial Police officer has been charged after a tear gas canister was activated at a police office in Bolton, Ont.

The force says the incident occurred on Aug. 21 in an office occupied by three other members of the OPP.

No one was injured, but the office had to be decontaminated.

Police say the office is not open to the public and there was no risk to public safety as a result of this incident.

Following an investigation by the force's Professional Standards Bureau, Const. Theodore Oderkirk was charged with mischief.

The 34-year-old officer -- a six-year veteran and member of an emergency response team -- will appear in court in Orangeville, Ont., on Oct. 27.
