An Oakville, Ont., family escaped injury after their home went up in flames on Monday.

Fire crews rushed to the home on Miller Road, near Upper Middle Road West and McCraney Street, at about 2:15 a.m. after the home caught fire.

Two occupants were inside the house at the time of the blaze, but were woken by fire alarms and escaped without injury.

Twenty-two firefighters were called to the scene to help douse the blaze.

Oakville Platoon Chief Dave Devier said the fire appeared to have started in the attic and spread through the home.

The back of the house was entirely destroyed, although no cost estimate was immediately available.

Fire crews remained at the scene Monday morning investigating the cause of the fire.
