Paris Street in Sudbury reopened after vehicle struck hydro pole

A major thoroughfare in the heart of Greater Sudbury was closed for about an hour Thursday morning after a vehicle struck a hydro pole, fire officials say.

It happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Paris Stret and Van Horne Street, deputy fire chief Jesse Oshell told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca.

No one was injured in the incident, but the road is closed due to the potential hazard caused by low hanging wires.

Motorists are encouraged to find alternative routes as the closure is creating heavy traffic congestion in the downtown core.

Police and firefighters remain on the scene while hydro crews work to repair the damage.

No word on what caused the crash or if any charges are pending.

The intersection reopened shortly before 9 a.m., Oshell said.
