A North York high school that will see Toronto police officers take part in a monitoring program saw a stabbing occur outside its front doors Wednesday.

Police were called to George S. Henry Academy after reports that an 18-year-old had been allegedly assaulted by three others. The victim's injuries weren't serious. He was able to walk to the waiting ambulance.

Police say the incident occurred after some type of dispute between the victim and the suspects, who are apparently known to the victim. Students told CTV Toronto that the victim wasn't the sort to cause problems.

George S. Henry Academy has been the scene of several police calls and has had some lockdowns, including one involving a person on school property armed with a gun.

The school's principal doesn't think the police could have stopped Wednesday's incident, but feels it will still prove to be a positive program.

The monitoring program will start next week. It involves 27 schools.

The move is part of a safety plan aimed at improving relations between authorities and youth. The officers will be in uniform and will be armed but will participate in school affairs and will lead seminars on bullying and safety.

Students seemed to be okay with the program, although a few told CTV Toronto they didn't like the idea of being watch.
