TORONTO -- A man shot in a Toronto nightclub early Thursday morning had apparently bumped into the gunman just before the shooting.

Toronto police responded to a call inside Rehab Nightclub (at 224 Richmond Street West) on New Year's Day at about 2:30 a.m.

Police say the victim was on the third floor of the nightclub when he bumped into the suspect.

The gunman then allegedly "got upset" and shot the victim in the thigh, according to a police statement.

The suspect fled and the 21-year-old victim was taken to hospital.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the shooter but have provided no description.
