A court order protecting the identity of a man charged in connection with an Oshawa toddler's death has now been lifted, which means the victim can now also be named.

Keagan Davis, age 2, was found dead a week ago in the basement suite of an Oshawa home.

Police and ambulance both responded to a 911 call from the residence on Jan. 5.

"A 26-year-old male associated with the deceased was at the residence upon the arrival of emergency personnel," Durham Regional Police said in a news release originally issued on Jan. 8.

The individual is reported to be the new boyfriend of the boy's mother.

Michael Monckton, 26, of Oshawa is facing a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the boy's death.

Keagan's funeral service will take place on Friday, with a visitation scheduled for Thursday evening.

Monckton has been in custody since his arrest. He will make a court appearance via video link on Wednesday.
