Peel Regional Police have laid additional charges in the death of a 10-year-old Brampton boy.

Shakeil Boothe was found without vital signs inside his family's home in Brampton at about 5 p.m. on Friday.

The victim's father, Garfield Boothe, is now charged with second-degree murder.

Garfield appeared in court on Tuesday, the day after he was first charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.

Police have also arrested the victim's step-mother, Nichelle Boothe-Rowe. The 28-year-old woman has been charged with manslaughter.

"As the result of our investigation we've have laid additional charges against Ms. Boothe-Rowe," Sgt. Zahir Saah told CTV Toronto.

Saah said he couldn't provide further details until the case goes to court.

Boothe-Rowe was scheduled to appear separately at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on Tuesday.
