There is some movement in a nine-week-old transit strike in York Region.

Talks resumed Wednesday between ATU local 1587 and Miller Transit and First Canada.

Union representatives said the employers expressed a desire to jump start negotiations, adding that it had nothing to do with a court threat.

Earlier this week, York Region filed an injunction against striking transit workers, asking the court to prevent "illegal blockades and unreasonable delays."

The region said intensified picketing has created unsafe conditions for transit users, motorists and pedestrians.

Meanwhile, ATU local 113 said it would consider a new proposal received late Tuesday from Veolia Transport to end the strike by its 220 workers.

Local 113 president Bob Kinnear said the bargaining committee would look at the offer and decide whether to respond with a counter proposal or take it directly to the union membership.
