Students at a Brampton high school say they are shocked after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed on Tuesday.
The victim was left with non-life-threatening injuries.
Peel Regional Police Const. Fiona Thivierge said officers were called to the high school -- located at 200 Valleyway Dr. -- just before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The school was placed under a temporary lockdown shortly after.
According to police, a fight had broken out between two male students inside the school's cafeteria.
"There was an altercation between two boys in the school that resulted in a number of other people trying to get involved," Thivierge told reporters on Tuesday.
Two students -- ages 16 and 17 -- were arrested in connection with the stabbing, police said. A third suspect, a 16-year-old boy, was later located by police.
Officers had conducted a room-by-room search for the boy at the school after the stabbing but were unable to locate him in the building.
Students who were inside the school around the time of the incident said the victim's body was covered in blood.
"We (couldn't) recognize him because there (was) blood from head to toe, and there's blood on the floor, blood here, blood
everywhere," one student told CTV Toronto.
Another student said "there was blood trailing from the cafeteria."
The 17-year-old was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Parents of the students were alerted of the incident by text messages from their children.
"(My daughter) said we are scared and I said 'just stay there, be safe,'" one concerned parent told CTV Toronto.
