Saron Fanel is no longer with CTV News.

Saron Fanel is a Videojournalist with CTV News Toronto.

Saron began her career interning at TSN’s Sportscentre as a sports editor. After her internship, she embarked on a new journey, moving to Ottawa where she worked in radio as a producer, anchor and reporter at Newstalk 580 CFRA. She also worked on CTV News Ottawa as a community reporter.

Saron followed her passion for news to the Prairies and took on a position at CTV Saskatoon as a reporter, producer and anchor. This experience was nothing but positive for her. She learned a lot about agriculture and issues affecting indigenous communities. The beautiful Prairie sky and kind people were a bonus.

Saron has covered a wide range of stories, including continuing coverage on the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash, damaging train derailments in Saskatchewan —  causing oil spills and evacuations — as well as an Anti-Black racism march in Ottawa that drew thousands of demonstrators.

She is an award-winning journalist who rejoined CTV News Ottawa in February 2020.  Saron has received two RTDNA awards: the Dave Rogers Award, for her short feature on a sick boy needing medication, and the Bert Cannings Award, a team achievement, for best newscast.

She graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism at Seneca College. She also holds an honours degree in Business Communications from Brock University. As part of an exchange program, she spent her third year studying at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She spent her spare time travelling states and meeting new international friends.

Saron is thankful viewers have welcomed her with such open arms. She’s passionate about giving a voice to people who need it and to those who may not have anywhere else to turn.

Saron is happiest when surrounded with friends and family. When she’s not reporting you’ll find her cooking or planning her next trip!
