Women were targeted by a man in at least two armed robberies in Toronto's Cabbagetown area early Wednesday morning.

The robberies occurred near Jarvis, Wellesley and Parliament streets between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.

One of the victims told CP24 the suspect approached her on the street, put a gun to her head and pushed her over the hood of his car.

The suspect then stole the woman's bag and fled in the car, she told CP24 reporter Cam Woolley.

One of the victims notified police and gave a licence plate number and a description of the car.

That information led to the suspect's arrest.

A tow truck driver who was monitoring the police radio spotted a car matching the description that was provided by the victim, so he called police.

A short time later, officers stopped an older model Honda near Danforth and Coxwell avenues, where they arrested a 22-year-old man and recovered what appears to be a black semi-automatic pistol, police told CP24.

Officers also recovered jewelry and other items that they believe belong to the victims.

Police said Saad Hassan is charged with two counts each of robbery, abduction and uttering threats, and firearms offences.
