Windsor Police have released the names of two men whose skeletal remains were found in a wooded area south of the city.

The bodies of Panayotis "Peter" Kambas, 53, and Vaios Koukousoulas, 63, were found near Harrow, Ont. on Dec. 7 by a hunter.

Autopsies were completed in Toronto about a week after the grim discovery, but authorities are not releasing the causes of death.

Police said it was difficult to identify the bodies at first.

"Due to varying stages of decomposition the bodies could not be readily identified," said a statement released by Windsor Police Staff Sgt. Norm Burkoski.

Burkoski did tell ctvtoronto.ca authorities used "scientific methods" to name the victims, adding he could not provide any others details since the methods used to identify the bodies have "bearing in the ongoing investigation."

The two men had not been seen since last June.

Both Kambas and Koukousoulas were from Windsor. They were reportedly last seen on June 29 hours before a garage fire at the same location.

Police said they are treating the deaths as a double homicide. No arrests have been made.
