The first two pedestrian fatalities of the year in Toronto happened in a span of an hour Saturday night.
The first fatality happened in the city's east end on Eglinton Avenue near McCowan Road.
A woman had just gotten off the Eglinton bus at around 6:30 p.m. and attempted to cross the street when she was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound.
The 31-year-old pedestrian was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Shortly after 7 p.m., a second person died after being hit by a car in the city's west end.
A 75-year-old man was attempting to cross the street at Martin Grove Road and The Westway. He stepped out into traffic and was hit by a van.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 81-year-old driver of the van was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Police said the weather conditions might have played a factor in both accidents as it was raining and dark at the time they both occurred.
