A 72-year-old pilot from Scarborough has been taken to hospital in serious condition after his two-seater pontoon plane collided with a barge and a boat on Pigeon Lake, north of Peterborough, Ont.

OPP officers responded to calls about the collision at around 3 p.m. Monday.

OPP Const. Iain McEwan said the plane hit a barge while taking off, and then crashed into a boat.

The pilot was pulled from the plane and given CPR before being transported to a local hospital.

A 17-year-old female who was on the barge at the time was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The female was an employee at the nearby Camp Maple Leaf -- a summer camp for children of military families. No children from the camp were injured.

The plane has since submerged in the water.

Representatives from the Ministries of Labour and Environment have been notified. The Transport Safety Board of Canada, Nav Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard have also been notified.

OPP technical investigators are continuing their investigation and are asking boaters to stay out of the area.
