Police say they are looking for information about two people who were killed and another person who was critically injured after a fire broke out at an east-end Toronto home Saturday afternoon.

"We have had zero luck in trying to identify the three parties that were inside the home when the fire started," Det. Eric Goldsmith told CTV News.

Emergency crews were called to a home on Kimbermount Drive, near Birchmount Road south of Finch Avenue in Toronto's Scarborough neighbourhood, shortly after 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Police have confirmed that two females are dead. One was found dead at the scene, while another succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

Police have not confirmed the age of the women, at least one of whom is believed to be a teenager.

One man in his 20s was rushed to Scarborough Grace Hospital with critical injuries.

Neighbours told CTV News the house was being rented by three university-aged students.

Reports say the blaze may have started in the basement and tore through the centre of the home.

"A boy came out of the side door and he only had his shorts on," said neighbour Shelia Muttart, adding that he was screaming for water. "I told him I phoned 911 and he didn't seem to understand. He was quite upset."

The fire was put out about an hour later. The Ontario Fire Marshal's office is investigating the cause of the fire.

"I was an extremely hot fire," said Toronto Fire Chief Bill Stewart. "Our firefighters experienced extreme heat."

Stewart added that officers on the scene did not hear any active fire alarms, suggesting none were properly installed in the house.

Police are asking anyone with information about who the three victims are and how long they had been living in the home to contact officers at 416-808-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
