Mississauga firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze at a tire store on Dundas Street, one that shut down local traffic and sent thick clouds of black smoke into the skies.

The fire was under control after a short while but the incident closed all lanes on Dundas Street East between Cawthra and Camilla roads throughout the morning.

Police warned residents who live in the neighbourhood to keep their windows shut and their vents closed because of the heavy smoke in the area. But by 11 a.m., the air quality was much improved.

No one was inside the Active Green and Ross mechanic shopwhen the fire broke out at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The fire broke out in a tire storage department.

A spokesperson for Mississauga Fire Services told CTV News that crews are concerned about chemicals inside the building. However, emergency crews have not evacuated residents who live in the area.

Witnesses reported seeing heavy black smoke and flames shooting out of the store's rooftop.

No injuries were reported.
