A record number of voters in Toronto turned out to cast their ballots on the first day of advance voting for the upcoming municipal election.
More than 28,000 Toronto voters cast their ballot on Tuesday ahead of the Oct. 27 election. That figure is nearly double the entire 2010 advance weekday turnout, which saw approximately 16,000 voters during the six weekdays of advance voting. The overall turnout for advance voting that year was approximately 77,000 voters.
"The City of Toronto saw its highest ever voter turnout on the first day of the advance voting," a statement from the city said Wednesday afternoon.
Advance voting turnout was highest in:
- Ward 5: 1,039 voters cast their ballot
- Ward 22: 1,077 voters
- Ward 25: 1,122 voters
- Ward 27: 1,060 voters
Advance polls opened Tuesday morning and close Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
