A Barrie teen has died while on vacation in Dominican Republic, friends say.

He has been identified as 19-year-old Jordan Morrison. The cause of death has not been released.

Morrison was a student at Barrie North Collegiate Institute who had intentions of joining the military, according to his friends.

Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs released a statement Friday confirming a Canadian citizen had died, but released few details.

"Consular officials at the Canadian Embassy in Santo Domingo and at the Punta Cana Office are working closely with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing consular assistance to the family," said a statement released on Friday.
