A teacher at a Vaughan school is facing charges in relation with two alleged sexual assaults that occurred about 20 years ago.

The accused was working at the Toronto Waldorf School between 1985 and 1992, when the incidents are alleged to have occurred. He is currently employed there, York Regional Police said Friday in a news release.

The school said in a written statement released Friday that it placed the accused teacher on leave after hearing of the allegations from two former students, both female. The school said it is co-operating with police.

The two complainants were 17 years old when the alleged offences occurred, police say.

"Investigators believe there may be more victims that have not come forward and are urging anyone with information to call police," police said.

Robert Pickering, 56, of Kettleby faces the following charges:

  • sexual assault (two counts)
  • sexual exploitation
  • seduction of a female between 16 and 18 years

Pickering was held in custody pending a court appearance in Newmarket scheduled for Friday.

No allegations against him have been proven in a court of law.
