Police have arrested and charged a 20-year-old driver accused of plowing his vehicle into a man after a dispute in the city’s Entertainment District.

According to police, the driver of Jeep Wrangler was heading north on John Street early Wednesday morning when he attempted to make a U-turn at Stephanie Street and collided with a black Honda pick-up truck.

The driver of the Honda then got out of his vehicle and got into some sort of altercation with the driver of the Jeep. That’s when, police say, the driver of the Jeep struck the man.

Police say the Jeep drove off, leaving the 39-year-old Honda driver critically wounded on the roadway. He was also robbed of his cellphone.

Paramedics rushed him to hospital, where he remains.

Investigators later located the Jeep believed to be involved in the collision and identified the driver. Photographs were released of both the vehicle and suspect.

Police say that driver surrendered himself to police on Friday morning.

A suspect identified as Toronto-resident Joseph Alarcon has since been charged with seven offenses including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing bodily harm, robbery with violence and theft of a motor vehicle.

A subsequent investigation led police to connect two “persons of interest” to the case, though it’s unclear how they’re related.

In an effort to identify the two males, police have released a series of photos taken from area security camera footage.

The first suspect was last seen wearing a T-shirt and shorts and the second was wearing a T-shirt and a long-sleeved sweater.

Investigators are asking any nearby residents or businesses who may have security cameras installed in the area of the collision to check their footage and contact investigators if they see anything of interest.
