One man is in hospital and a second is in custody after a stabbing in the west-end Thursday morning, Toronto police said.

A man in his late 40s was stabbed in the neck at a home on St. Clarens Avenue, near College Street and Lansdowne Avenue, a little before 6 a.m., Const. Victor Kwong said in an interview with CP24.

Neighbours called the police when they heard a loud argument between two men who live in the apartment building prior to the incident, Kwong said. It appears the victim and the suspect got into a physical fight since both men were injured. Police have identified the suspect as 50-year-old Jamal Hamed.

Police say that two neighbours attempted to intervene in the fight. A 60-year-old man has apparent knife wounds to the head, and a 30-year-old has woulds on his hands.

Bleeding heavily, one man made it downstairs to the landlord's unit from the second floor where the fight occurred, a witness told police. When police arrived, the victim was rushed to St. Michael's Hospital truama centre on an emergency run, where he remains in serious condition.

Det. Christopher Trites said that the suspect had two knives. Trites said that one was a large kitchen knife, which Hamed was still carrying when he was Tasered outside the home by police.

Hamed was then brought to the hospital with less serious injuries, Trites said. He is facing an attempted murder charge, and two counts of assault with a weapon.
