More than three dozenstudents were taken off a bus when it caught fire on Highway 400 in Port Severn, Ont.

The Coach Canada charter bus caught fire in the southbound lanes of the highway at Hidden Glen Road, at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Provincial police said there were 40 students and four adults on board the bus at the time, but all were able to escape the fire safely. Several ambulances were called to the scene, and one student was taken to nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the students are between the ages of 12 and 18. Police said they go to a private school in Toronto, and were returning from a trip to a camp in the Muskoka area.

Officers said the fire is not considered suspicious. It is believed that the fire was sparked when a tire blew on the highway.

The bus was destroyed in the fire that left a charred metal skeleton on wheels.

The southbound lanes of Highway 400 were closed at Crooked Bay Road while crews worked to extinguish the fire, but lanes have since reopened.
