Commuters will find it difficult travelling through downtown Toronto Sunday as St. Patrick's Day activities take place on local streets.

The 21st annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will cause most of the disruptions as the procession makes its way across Bloor Street, south along Yonge Street, west along Queen Street and then north along University Avenue.

Toronto police said they will close the parade route to cars until about 3 p.m.

Some surrounding streets such as Bay, Elizabeth and Hagerman Streets are also expected to be closed.

Other road closures are:

  • University Avenue from Queen Street to Dundas Street.
  • Armoury Street from University Avenue to Chestnut Street
  • Centre Avenue from Dundas Street to Armoury Street

The 9th annual St. Patrick's Day run caused traffic disruptions on Bremner Blvd. to Spadina Avenue, Wellington Street and Yonge Street.

Motorists are being advised to take the subway into downtown but are being reminded that some TTC bus routes are also being effected by the road closures.
