Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a man was injured falling from a balcony during an attempted arrest in Scarborough.

The man was injured in the area of Eglinton Avenue and Markham Road, at approximately 2 a.m.

Police said they were in the process of arresting the suspect when he jumped off a balcony on the fourth floor. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers have not said why the man was arrested, but the Special Investigations Unit has been notified of the incident.
