Toronto police say that a man was shot at Scarborough Town Centre on Monday, closing down the mall's south-east bus bay.

Officials say a male in his late teens or early 20s was reportedly shot in the torso shortly before 4 p.m. somewhere in the mall's southern bus loop. The shooting occurred inside a bus and the scene has been roped off with police tape.

The victim is in stable condition at Sunnybrook Hospital.

The Toronto Transit Commission says that most bus services have been restored and the SRT line has re-opened to full service.

Authorities are looking for a suspect who is also in his late teens or early 20s. A silver gun was found in a trash can at a house less than two kilometres away on Lynnbrook Drive.

Anne-Marie Brown, the resident who found the gun, says she had arrived home to shocking news and now feels scared.

"I came home and this man, my neighbour, told me that somebody ran through my backyard. That's all I know."

Police emptied a bullet from the gun's chamber, and say they will test the gun to confirm it was used in the shooting. Authorities brought in a canine unit to help track down the suspect.

Police are asking residents to contact them at 416-808-4300 if they see anything suspicious.
