One of the three victims in a fatal car crash in North York on Sunday has been identified as a 21-year-old Seneca College student.
According to police, five people were inside an Acura when it collided with a Mercedes Benz in the Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue area. The Acura continued to drive south on Jane Street where it lost control, stuck a second vehicle and hit a light standard.
A number of the occupants were ejected from the vehicle.
The family of the 21-year-old woman killed in the wreck identified her as Ravina Budhooram to CTV Toronto Tuesday.
According to Budhooram’s father, the young woman was in her final year at Seneca College in Markham and was studying hospitality.
He described Budhooram as “a kind-hearted girl that left an impression on everyone she met.”
A 19-year-old man, a 23-year-old man and 19-year-old Budhooram were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person, a 23-year-old man, was rushed to hospital in critical condition and a fifth person, a 24-year-old man, suffered serious injuries, according to police.
Police continue to investigate what caused the collision.
Speaking to CTV Toronto Tuesday, Const. Stibbe said that two men were seen pulling the one occupant from the vehicle but left before officers arrived on the scene.
Police say they are looking for the two Good Samaritans and would like to speak with them.
According to police, one of the men is believed to be named Tony.
“We have had some Good Samaritans step forward and through their individual identification to police, we’ve now determined the individual we want to speak to is Tony and his friend,” said Stibbe. “These are the two individuals that actually pulled the individual out of the vehicle after the collision.”
Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, though speed is believed to have been a factor.
“Without a doubt, speed is a factor in this collision,” said Stibbe. “In the end, this is something that could have been avoided by a conscious decision that the driver made.”
Stibbe said that investigators will continue to probe the incident until they can determine the driver of the vehicle at the time.
