Police have released security footage of two persons of interest who may have information on a murder at a downtown apartment building.

On Dec. 3, officers were called to an apartment building at 200 Wellesley St. E., just east of Yonge Street, by a friend who said he hadn't heard from his friend in two days.

When police arrived, they were directed to apartment 216, where they found the resident of the apartment suffering from several injuries. Paramedics were called, but the man was pronounced dead on scene.

Police have not released the cause of death, but later identified the victim as Wasfi Ghalban, 47.

At a news conference Wednesday, police released security video captured in the apartment building of two persons of interest

The video shows a man entering the lobby at 9:50 p.m. on Dec. 1. He holds the door for a second man.

The two men walk through the lobby, and one goes to the elevator, while the other goes to a stairwell. Police said they don't know whether the men had any involvement, and are not treating them as suspects at this time.

"We're still going through surveillance video and we'd like to speak to as many people as possible," Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone said Wednesday.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the men in the video to come forward. They would also like to speak to friends, family members or neighbours who had contact with Ghalban on Dec. 1 between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

"It appears that this was a targeted attack, and robbery may have been a motive," Carbone said.

Carbone said the victim did not have any known involvement in criminal activity.
