Toronto police are warning fans about a fake ticket scam as Blue Jays fever spreads across the city.

Tickets for the Jays games have been hard to come by in recent weeks thanks to a combination of new, all-star players and a chance at the American League East division title.

With many games sold out, fans are turning to scalpers to get tickets. But police warned Tuesday of an increase in complaints about fake tickets.

"A number of these tickets purchased appear to be real Toronto Blue Jays tickets, but were fake and were difficult to detect," police said in a statement.

"Investigators would like to remind the public that tickets for entertainment venues should be bought through an accredited source."

In the statement, police reminded the public that possession or use of fraudulent tickets can result in refusal of entry by the venue. Those trying to use fake tickets can also face fines, charges and arrest.

The investigation into the scam is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5200. Tips can also be left anonymously at 416-222-8477 (TIPS).
