A man in his 20s is in serious but non-life-threatening condition and a second man has part of a shell “lodged in his face,” after an early-morning shooting in the city's west end, police said.

The shooting happened at about 4:45 a.m. in the lobby of 44 Willowridge Road, an apartment building near Eglinton Avenue and Martin Grove Road.

Paramedics said the first victim was taken to hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to his upper chest. He was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived on scene, but later upgraded to “non life-threatening.”

The second victim is “not co-operating,” police said.

Police arrested two suspects at the scene but did not indicate whether they were involved in the shooting. The suspects were taken to the local station for "other criminal offences," officers said.

Investigators are looking for additional suspects in the shooting and are asking any witnesses to come forward.
