A York Regional Police officer has been suspended with pay after being accused of sexual assault while off-duty.
Const. Brent Rouillard was dismissed on Sunday, a day after he was arrested by Toronto police officers.
"It is extremely disappointing…that an officer within our organization has been charged," said York Regional Police Chief Eric Jolliffe in a prepared statement.
Rouillard has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, careless storage of a restricted weapon and careless storage of ammunition.
Police in York Region said the 38-year-old officer from Toronto has been a member of the force since December 2006.
He worked on Uniform Patrol before being transferred to the Special Services Unit in 2011, YRP said in a release.
Rouillard was scheduled to appear at Old City Hall courts on Sunday, according to Toronto police Det. Lisa Ferris.
