Toronto police say they have a new lead in the unsolved murder of a father of nine who was slain two summers ago.
Julian "DMX" Hinckson, 41, was found dead in a walkway near Finch Avenue East and Leslie Street, in the early hours of June 5, 2007.
An autopsy would reveal that he died of "sharp force injuries to the chest."
At a press conference on Thursday, Det. Doug Sansom said a witness had come forward to police prior to Christmas and identified an individual who may have spent time in the neighbourhood where Hinckson was killed.
The individual is a black male in his 30s, who may have the nickname "Fugee." Police say he is six feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds.
Police would like to talk to this individual because "he is a person of interest at this point," Sansom said.
"We don't know if this person is involved in the actual homicide, but this person has been identified as someone in the area who we need to speak to," he said.
The victim's family does not recognize the description or nickname, he said.
Sansom said police have still not identified a motive in Hinckson's killing, but they believe two people were involved in his death.
Both police and the victim's family are asking for the public's help in finding Hinckson's killer.
The Toronto Star reported at the time of Hinckson's death, that the often fixed bikes for the kids that lived in his neighbourhood.
Sansom said Hinckson had nine children, three of whom still live in the area where he was killed.
"We have had a degree of co-operation -- not as much as we think we could get-- and so that's why we're asking again for people to come forward if they know anything," Sansom said.
