A shooting in the vicinity of Oakwood and St. Clair Avenues is now a homicide investigation. However, police haven't said much about the case.

The victim -- possibly in his early 20s, although some reports put him as young as 18 -- had been transported to St. Michael's hospital downtown, which has a trauma centre.

The call came in at 3:34 p.m. on Monday. Police found the victim lying lifelessly in the street with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police told CTV News they had initial reports of up to five shots being heard. They believe at least two guns were involved.

Up to four men and a couple of women were seen fleeing the scene, which is centred around th 300 block of Winona Drive. That location is about 500 metres northeast of the Oakwood/St. Clair intersection.

There was one report of an arrest in the shooting's aftermath, but police said it was not in connection with this incident.

As of late Monday, police had not released an official statement.

The death is Toronto's 14th homicide of 2010.
