Peel police are probing a weekend accident that the claimed the life of a female pedestrian in Mississauga, Ont.

Lynne Forsyth, 52, was standing on the sidewalk at the intersection of Winston Churchill Boulevard and Battleford Road when she was struck by a car.

The 27-year-old driver of the Hyundai Elantra was travelling southbound at around 6:20 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle.

The car mounted the sidewalk, hit a pole and then struck Forsyth, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the accident.

Peel police are investigating what led the driver to lose control of the car. No charges have been laid and the identity of the driver has not been released.
